Our client is seeking a Director, Operational Accounting to oversee the financial operations for a diverse, multi-entity group of companies. This is a high-impact leadership role within a shared services environment, ideal for a strategic yet hands-on finance professional who thrives in complex, growth-oriented organizations.
As the Director, Operational Accounting, you’ll lead a team responsible for financial planning and analysis, month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. You’ll act as a key business partner to Operations, supporting project leaders and executives with insights that drive informed decision-making and long-term financial health.
This role plays a pivotal part in aligning financial performance with operational goals across Canada and the U.S. The successful candidate will bring a balance of technical accounting expertise, leadership strength, and commercial acumen to deliver timely, accurate, and actionable financial insights.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead the Operational Finance team across multiple entities and regions, providing guidance, development, and performance management.
- Oversee the month-end close process, project accounting reviews, and preparation of management reports, variance analyses, and MDA commentary.
- Own the income statement forecasting and budgeting process, including scenario modeling and capital budget planning.
- Partner with Operations and Project teams to monitor performance metrics, backlog, and cash flow requirements.
- Collaborate with Estimating, HR/Payroll, IT, and Financial Accounting to ensure accurate job costing and process alignment.
- Provide financial input on bids, contracts, and capital investment decisions.
- Support external audit processes, tax reporting, and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP/ASPE).
- Strengthen internal controls, drive process improvements, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous development.
Key Skills and Qualifications Include:
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a Director-level capacity.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field of study. CPA designation is required.
- Experience in multi-entity, cross-border operations (Canada and U.S.) within a shared services model.
- Proven background in construction, project-based, or capital-intensive industries.
- Strong analytical, strategic planning, and leadership skills with the ability to translate financial insights into business strategy.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or joint ventures considered an asset.
